Hi Waypoint Team,
It would be helpful to have a simple place to track money that other people owe me.
For example, if I pay $100 for someone and they repay $50, Waypoint should show that there is still $50 outstanding. That amount should carry over into future months until the person finishes paying it back.
It would be useful to track:
The person’s name
What the money was for
The original amount owed
Partial repayments
The remaining balance
An optional due date or reminder
Notes
Status, such as outstanding, partially paid, or paid in full
The total amount currently owed to me
It would also be nice to link the amount owed to the original transaction. If I pay a $150 restaurant bill and someone owes me $60, I could mark just that $60 as money owed to me while keeping my $90 portion under Dining Out. When the person repays me, I could select the original item and record either a partial or full repayment. Waypoint would then update the remaining balance automatically without counting the repayment as regular income. Ideally, this would be separate from monthly spending allocations because unpaid amounts may carry over for several months.
I hope you guys can consider it, I think this would improve the accuracy of Waypoint’s budgets and reports. Money paid for someone else should not permanently appear as personal spending, and repayments should not appear as normal income. A dedicated tracker would handle this clearly while helping users manage shared expenses and partial repayments without relying on notes or another app.
