See all Categories as default view on Dashboard
Currently, you have ‘Top 5 Spending’ as well as the ‘Category Breakdown’. Which makes sense on the surface; however, with your current sorting and list truncating in the ‘Category Breakdown’, you’re really just showing the same information twice.
I would prefer to see all my Categories at once as the default without having to click on the “show more“, or at least the ones I’ve spent in. Alternatively, highlighting a different piece of information could make sense as well, like perhaps shuffling all categories in which you’ve overspent to the always-view part of the list, or maybe ordering by the amount of allocation remaining.

Sorry for taking so long before getting to this. I just wanted to share where we landed. I had a chat with our designer:
The two sections now answer different questions. Top 5 Spending sorts by what you've actually spent (where your money went), while Category Breakdown sorts by budgeted amount (how your plan is structured). They overlap visually but not informationally.
For surfacing overspent categories, we added an On Track / Off Track filter at the top of the Category Breakdown. One click shows you only the categories that need attention, which we think is cleaner than re-sorting the full list.
We're keeping the "Show More" truncation as the default because many users have 15+ categories and not everyone uses groups, so showing everything by default would make the dashboard pretty tall on first load. The toggle is there when you want the full picture.
Going to close this one out, but I appreciate the detailed write-up. The "two sections show the same thing" critique directly influenced how we re-thought the sort order on Top 5.
