Extend the notion of filtering (transactions for instance) by group(s) instead of, or in addition to, individual categories. Sample use case - display all ‘Dining Out’ not just individually selected restaurants
You're right that once categories are organized into groups, the transactions filter should understand them. Selecting a group now selects everything inside it, and you can still uncheck individual categories underneath.
