Duplicate Accounts

It appears that Waypoint blocks what it thinks are duplicate accounts. I have added my accounts and updated them manually since I started with WayPoint Budget a few weeks ago. Today I attempted to sync my accounts with my bank. When I did this I was not prompted to match the sync’d accounts with the existing manual ones I already had in Waypoint and what happened was not expected or desirable. What ended up happening after I sync’d the accounts with my bank is that I can no longer see transactions in the manual accounts, I’m assuming because it thinks they are duplicate accounts. This doesn’t work for me. What would have been ideal would have being given the opportunity to match the manual accounts with the sync’d accounts at initial setup. Otherwise both sets of accounts should be avaiable.

Hey @Niels Damgaard the automatic version is live.

Once the bank has confirmed that a manual account is the same one it delivers, Waypoint Budget now folds the rest of that account's history into the connected account on its own. One account, all of your history under it, and the manual copy retires so nothing is counted twice. Nothing is deleted, and the Banks tab shows an Undo for 30 days if you would rather keep them separate.

There is nothing to do on your side. It runs with your next sync, and you will see a short note on the Banks tab when it happens. If anything looks off after that, reply here and we will sort it.

Thanks @Niels Damgaard, and sorry for the surprise.

When you connected your bank, the bank sent the last three months of transactions. To avoid showing everything twice, we match your manual entries to the bank's records, and those now sit under the connected accounts. Everything older is still on your manual accounts, which is why they look empty for recent months.

The gap you hit is real. We don't yet link a manual account to its bank account when you connect, so the history ends up split in two and Net Worth counts both balances. That's is on us, and the automatic version of what you described is going on the roadmap.

For now we can merge them for you: move the rest of the history onto the connected accounts and remove the manual copies. Your balances would then come straight from the bank and nothing would be double counted. If you'd rather keep the manual accounts separate, that works too, just say which. Please let me know!
