ChatGPT Integration / Secure Financial Data Access

Feature Request

I’d love the ability to securely connect my Waypoint account to ChatGPT, ideally through an official integration, plugin, or API connection.

The goal would be to allow ChatGPT to access my Waypoint financial data—with my permission—such as transactions, account balances, spending categories, budgets, income, and savings goals. This would let me use ChatGPT as a more interactive personal finance assistant to analyze my spending, identify trends, track progress against my budget, answer questions about my finances, and help me plan savings and investment goals.

Ideally, the integration would support read-only access with granular permissions so users remain fully in control of what financial information is shared. This would make Waypoint significantly more useful for users who want to combine its financial tracking with AI-powered analysis and planning.

    Hi @Notorious926 @Cadin , good news: this is live as of today, and it is pretty much what you described.

    Open Profile, then Integrations, and turn on Connected assistants. You get a server URL to add in ChatGPT (Settings, Security and login, turn on Developer mode, then Plugins, Browse plugins, and the + button). Sign in to Waypoint Budget when ChatGPT asks, approve, and you are connected. It works with Claude the same way.

    It is read-only, so it can read your transactions, balances, budget, goals and recurring items for the profile you have open in the app, and cannot change anything. Account numbers are never shared. Turning the switch off disconnects every assistant instantly, and it also turns itself off after 60 days unused or when you change your password.     Two things worth knowing. It is included with Plus and Pro. And until we are listed in OpenAI's directory, ChatGPT only allows custom connections on its Pro, Team, Enterprise and Edu plans, so if you are on ChatGPT Plus it will not let you add it yet. Claude has no such limit.

    I would genuinely like to hear how it goes once you have tried it and if you run into any issues.

      Thanks so much for adding the ChatGPT integration — I really appreciate it.

      I’ve connected Waypoint Budget directly with ChatGPT, and so far it’s been genuinely useful. ChatGPT has been able to read our live budget data, review our spending and budget categories, and help us stay accountable to our financial goals rather than just having the data sit inside the app.

      One of the most useful things we’ve been able to set up is scheduled budget reviews directly in ChatGPT. We now have a morning and evening review where ChatGPT can check the current month’s Waypoint data and give us a concise update on how we’re doing, flag areas where spending is getting off track, and keep our debt-paydown and budgeting priorities front and centre.

      That kind of integration is exactly what I was hoping for — Waypoint remains the source of truth for the financial data, while ChatGPT can actually use that information conversationally and proactively to help us make better decisions.

      Thanks again for building this out. I’m excited to see how the integration continues to develop.

        That makes me so happy! I’m so happy its elevated your budgeting game :). I haven’t personally used for our own budgeting needs as the app does most of the things I need it for but I realize how this can be helpful for the number nerds and people that like to stay connected and ask their own personal agents about how their numbers look!

        Let me know if there’s anything else we do for you! Hoping at some point I can spend some more time to elevate it even more! I have also submitted us for an official plugin on their store so hoping they approve that soon 🤞 !

    Hi @Notorious926, definitely get what you are asking for. Thanks for re-clarifying but your post was pretty thorough, so thank you for that! We definitely have this on our roadmap already so this echos that. We just haven’t gotten to it yet as it yields some security implications and how our data will be used by these platforms. Once we have a proper plan drafted and discussed internally I’ll move this to Planned and let you know.

    The roadmap plan we have should allow you to do pretty much everything you explained and more. Stay tuned for any updates :).

    I’m aware Waypoint already has built-in AI features, and I think those are useful. What I’m looking for here is different — I’d like the option to securely connect my Waypoint data to ChatGPT.

    I already use ChatGPT extensively and would like it to become a more personalized financial assistant that can understand my finances alongside the other goals, planning, and context I work through with it. ChatGPT also gives me much more flexibility in how I can analyze information, ask follow-up questions, explore scenarios, and build plans.

    So for me, this wouldn’t be about replacing Waypoint’s AI. It would be about giving users secure, read-only access to their own Waypoint data through an API/integration so they can use it with the AI tools they already prefer.
