Back date recurring manually added transactions

I am just starting out and wanted to upload and create my historical data for the last 2 years. I see I can add transactions manually but cannot back date the recurrence. This means I have to manually add manual transactions for every month. As this is frustrating, could you simply add a feature to say start date to be in the past and automatically create transactions from that day?

    Hi Julie,

    Good news: you don't need to rebuild by hand. Go to Transactions, hit Import, and upload CSV or PDF statements from your bank. It's free on every plan, most banks let you export 2+ years, duplicates are detected automatically, and categories get applied for you. Your full history lands in a few minutes with actual amounts.

    Recurring transactions in Waypoint Budget are forward-looking on purpose, they create next occurrences from today onward. For the past, import is the intended path and the better one, since it brings in what you actually spent rather than copies of one amount.

    Marking this as complete since the goal (getting your historical data in) is covered. If you hit anything odd during the import, reach out from Help and Support in the app and I'll take a look.

      Thank you for the information. I am in a spot where I no longer have access to historical data from my accounts. But I can use your feedback, I can manually create excel then csv files to upload. I would still like an option to back date recurrence but understand that the upload is a work around that is manageable.

        Glad that works for you, Julie! One tip to make the spreadsheet route painless: you only need three columns, Date, Description, and Amount (expenses as one sign, deposits as the other, just keep it consistent). Save as CSV and import. The importer figures out the layout automatically and categories get applied for you, so keep descriptions close to the real merchant names and you'll get better auto-categorization.
