Add Transaction Button Change

On the iOS app, I’d love to see a button at the bottom of the screen to add a new transaction. Maybe that’s a button that floats near the bottom of the app’s home screen. Maybe that’s a widget on the app’s home screen. Maybe that’s a button in the app’s menu bar. I’m open to ideas!

The issue I’m trying to solve is that when I open the app I have to tap the Activity button at the bottom, and then reach up to the top for the Add button. My stubby thumbs dislike this

Haha thank you! Love anything that makes your life easier, this was a fun one to work on anyways so thank you for posting about it. Play with it, let me know if there’s anything missing, would love to know if it works well after some days of using it or if there’s anything missing or something that could make it better!

This might sound harsh but stick with me. There are three issues I see.

        1) In the screenshot attached, my eyes scan this as:

        • $10 being spent✅

        • Starbucks entered by me

        • The app finding that payee and suggesting it (along with its correct category. which we love)

        • So I need to tap that suggestion to confirm it.

I don’t know what a solution is to this, but the UI has the $10 highlighted and none of the others. And so I think only the $10 is locked in.

        2) It’s honestly so much better than I expect it to be that I’m feeling my brain rewire. Like, I stop and look at it for a few seconds thinking to myself “well surely there must be more work to do, right?” It’s a feature I would’ve never asked for, and yet adore it so much. Which leads to…

        3) Could the app suggest payee’s based on my partial name entered? And also lookup which account that payee used most recently and suggest it too? You’re making me soooo lazy my friend

@jasonjasonjason I’m going to hold your hand when I say this but stick with me. That was not harsh at all lol! In fact very nice of you to give us constructive criticism. You just made it easier for us to fix the gaps.

I agree with everything you’ve said, here’s what I’ve done now:

          1. You read it the way it was drawn. The amount had a ring and the payee and date didn’t, so the ring looked like “confirmed” and the rest looked like suggestions. Everything in that row was already filled in. The ring is gone now, so the only things that light up are choices you make, like the account.

          2. Both done. Start typing a payee and your own names show up under the field, tap one and it finishes the word. And once a payee has gone on the same account two times in a row, Quick Add picks that account for you, so Starbucks lands on the Amex after you’ve put it there twice.

Please let me know if there’s still anything else that bugs you or doesn’t make sense. I am happy to keep working on this.

          Cheers,
          Jamal

    Hi @jasonjasonjason,

This is live now! Open Activity and there's a + button sitting just above the tabs, right where your thumb already is. No more reaching for the top of the screen.

While we were at it, we thought we'd go a step further and make adding a transaction itself easier 😉 . The + opens Quick Add: just type the purchase the way you'd say it, like "Tims 4.50 yesterday on my Visa", and the amount, payee, date and account fill in for you to check. Or hold the + and say it out loud instead. Say "monthly" and it repeats on its own.

The full form is still there when you want notes, tags or a split: tap More Options and it opens with everything carried over. And if you'd rather the + always open the full form, there's a switch for that under Settings.

Speaking needs version 1.3.0 from the App Store. Everything else works on the version you have today.

    Cheers,
    Jamal
